WASHINGTON AVE. TO BROOKLYN BRIDGE — TRAFFIC WILL BE SUSPENDED THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 16, on several major arteries from Crown Heights and Prospect Lefferts Gardens onto the Brooklyn Bridge, for the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.
The starting point for the half-marathon is Washington Avenue near Sullivan Place, and it includes several streets between Eastern Parkway and Empire Blvd. that sit to the east of Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
These include Washington Ave., and Eastern Parkway from Flatbush Ave., Plaza Street East and Franklin Ave.; Classon Ave., Union, President, Carroll, Crown, Montgomery streets, Sullivan Place, and the area including and surrounding Grand Army Plaza Oval.
The runners then head northwest along Flatbush Avenue to Fulton St., then to Tillary and to Adams St. (Brooklyn Bridge Blvd.) before heading onto the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan.
The NYC DOT also announced a Special Event Construction embargo for impacted streets along the runners’ route, starting last Friday, March 7. A Special Construction Embargo suspends all active permits in the affected area(s); no new permits may be approved for work there unless NYC DOT grants a waiver in emergency situations (such as water main breaks). For more information on the construction embargo, visit the DOT’s website.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. ATLANTIC AVENUE — Exhausted shopper with cluster of bags and goods from mall at Boerum Place stops to look at huge construction site across the street. “Is that REALLY going to be a jail??” Her male companion is reassuring, “Nothing like Rikers … this is 21st Century.”
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Overheard in line at one of most popular pastry outlets on Montague Street: “Hope I can get them into a camp …” A mother with two pre-schoolers in tow was showing a friend the Dodge Y flyer for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18.
