BROOKLYN/QUEENS— THE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW PROCESS FOR THE FORTHCOMING INTERBOROUGH EXPRESS (IBX) light rail system is beginning, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The process, being conducted under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), constitutes the first major milestone reached for the IBX since Governor Kathy Hochul’s August announcement that the project had entered the preliminary engineering and design phase.
Kicking off the environmental review will be a series of public scoping meetings on three consecutive Wednesdays that will explain the scope of the project and the review process. Brooklyn College hosts the first of these meetings on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5:30-8 p.m. followed by a Nov. 6 meeting in Middle Village. Two virtual meetings will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The environmental review process will run concurrent to the ongoing preliminary design and engineering phase of the project kicked off in August.
