SHEEPSHEAD BAY — AS ST. MARK CATHOLIC ACADEMY MARKS ITS CENTENNIAL YEAR, the corner where the school sits will be officially named in its honor. City Councilmember Inna Vernikov, R-48, is hosting an official ceremony on Monday, Sept. 22, along with Superintendent Deacon Kevin McCormack, the Diocese of Brooklyn’s Superintendent of schools, and Deputy Superintendent Joan McMaster, an alum of the school. The corner of East 19th St. and Avenue Z will be named St. Mark Catholic Academy Way.
St. Mark was founded on Sept. 24, 1924, as a parish school under the leadership of founder Msgr. Daniel J. McCarthy and the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Columbus, Ohio. The first graduating class in 1928 had 13 students.
Over the decades, enrollment grew through the 1970s, with the apex being 135 graduates in 1975. In 2015, St. Mark School became St. Mark Catholic Academy. Father Robert Mucci and a lay board of trustees currently lead the school, which has about 340 students.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park.
