BENSONHURST — THE SHALOM DRAGON FESTIVAL taking place this Sunday at 79th Street and Bay Parkway will celebrate both Jewish and Asian culture in Brooklyn.
The Shalom Dragon Festival, which runs on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be a family-friendly event that aims to celebrate Jewish and Asian heritage through a day of cultural performances, activities, food, music and community connection, sharing traditions, according to a press release from City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, one of the sponsors.
Additional sponsors are the Jewish Community Relations Council-New York, UJA-Federation/New York and the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst. Scheduled features include Jewish jazz performances, a Lion Dance, drumming circles, science shows, arts and crafts stations and classes on Krav Maga, an Israeli martial art that emphasizes practical self-defense.
“As an immigrant and the first Asian woman to represent our district in the City Council, I know how important it is to create spaces where all communities can come together, learn from one another, and celebrate what makes New York City special,” said Zhuang.
