SENEGAL — Those talented in movement know how to turn their hair into a dance partner: A lady attends a dance workshop at the Biennale of Dance in Africa, held at Ecole Des Sables, Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The Biennale has been held in a different African city each year since 1997, this year in the small fishing village of Toubab Dialaw, just outside of Dakar.
The three-day event featured 25 African dance companies and an open-air sand studio.

Sarmah defeated Santanu Bora by more than 47.6 thousand votes. Bora is a member of one of the nation’s oldest and largest political parties, the Indian National Congress.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is generally viewed as conservative and promotes Hindutva, emphasizing Hindu cultural identity. The Indian National Congress, typically more secular and center-left, was led by Mahatma Gandhi during the independence movement.
KENTUCKY — ‘Okay, folks, as soon as we clear those horses off the track, we’ll have the parade of the hats’: A woman holds drinks as people pass before the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby horse race at Churchill Downs, Saturday, in Louisville.
Golden Tempo won the Derby, making Cherie DeVaux the first woman to train a thoroughbred winner. The jockey, Jose Ortiz, brought Golden Tempo from the 12th position to the win.
The 152nd Kentucky Derby also snagged a record television viewership. NBC and Peacock networks brought in 19.6 million viewers.
ENGLAND — It’s all about feeling felt — felt on the table, felt on the tip of the cue stick: England’s Shaun Murphy in action during his match against China’s Wu Yize at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield, Monday.
Wu finished Sunday night, the first day of the two-day match, with a 10-7 lead, eventually clinching the championship win on Monday. China provided 11 of the 32 players in the world championship, underscoring its growing presence in snooker, punctuated by Wu’s win.
Snooker differs from pool and billiards in several ways, including snooker’s smaller balls and larger table.
SEOUL — ‘May the fourth be with you’ is celebrated all over the world, but ‘May the fifth be with you’ is still the favorite of whiskey lovers: Members of the 501st Legion Korean Garrison dressed as Star Wars characters parade to mark Star Wars Day, in South Korea, Monday.
The Asian nation adopted this worldwide celebration in 2015.

The final score between the two teams was 0-0.
A mishap at another Serie A match on Sunday injured the goalie of the Cremonese team during the game with Inter Milan. A flare hit Emil Audero, exploding and knocking him down. Fortunately, he was able to continue playing.
BARCELONA — ‘Thank you, fans, we do this for you…’ Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas gestures towards the fans at the end of the women’s Champions League semifinal soccer match between FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich in Spain, Sunday.
Barcelona won the match 4-2, after rebounding from a tie in the first leg.
Barcelona will now face the French team OL Lyonnes in the final, which will be played in Oslo, Norway.

Jamming devices, like this one, disrupt communications between a drone and its operator by transmitting electromagnetic signals that interfere with the same radio frequency band.
