CITY HALL — MAYOR ZOHRAN MAMDANI on Friday announced the appointment of three respected public servants to an independent commission which will review compensation levels for a number of New York City elected officials as an alternative to proposed legislation that would have automatically provided raises, according to the Mayor’s Office.
The “ Quadrennial Advisory Commission” will be chaired by Carl Weisbrod, former commissioner of the Department of City Planning and founding president of the Economic Development Corp. He will be joined by Dr. Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, former deputy mayor of Health and Human Services; and Larian Angelo, former first deputy director at the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, and City Council finance director.
The review will cover salaries for city councilmembers, citywide elected officials, borough presidents and district attorneys. Any proposed changes must be approved by the City Council. “I am confident they will approach this responsibility with the seriousness and independence it demands, and I look forward to carefully reviewing their recommendations,” Mamdani said in a release.
While “quadrennial” refers to every four years, this will be the first meeting of the commission since 2015.
