BROOKLYN — BROOKLYN RESIDENT AND IRANIAN-AMERICAN JOURNALIST and activist Masih Alinejad shared an emotional video on X reacting to reports of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes, dancing joyfully in the streets and hugging strangers amid widespread diaspora celebrations.
Alinejad, who has survived multiple Iranian-linked assassination attempts, including a plot at her Brooklyn home in 2022, expressed profound relief, stating it was the first morning she awoke to good news rather than reports of regime killings.
“Ali Khamenei is dead,” Alinejad yelled into the streets. “Free Iran, free Iran!”
“I am from Iran, I love America!” she continued, as she pumped her fists in the air. Passersby embraced Alinejad in her euphoria, and she thanked them for their empathy.
The video, posted shortly after the strikes on Feb. 28, has amassed over 79,000 likes, as Iran declares 40 days of mourning and vows retaliation.
