PROSPECT HEIGHTS — SKATEBOARDERS AND OPPONENTS are expected to pack the room next week when Brooklyn Community Board 8’s Parks, Youth & Education Committee meets to review the preliminary design for a proposed 40,000-square-foot skate park in Mount Prospect Park, dubbed the Mount Prospect Park Skate Garden, which has been drawing community debate.
Opponents say the plan would see concrete replace grass in the 7.79-acre park, which is sandwiched between the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Prospect Park, while supporters say the skatepark could provide a new community space for young people, with landscaping compatible with the surrounding greenery.
Opponents last month asked Comptroller Mark Levine’s office to probe a legal agreement the city signed with skateboarder Tony Hawk’s foundation to build the skatepark, the Brooklyn Eagle reported.
The CB8 meeting takes place on Tuesday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 155 Brooklyn Ave. in Crown Heights.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park.
