A saltwater lake, Pangong spans India and China, with two-thirds of it in China. It is also a breeding ground for several bird species.
FRANCE — Lean winning machine: Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar, right, celebrates as he crosses the finish line on July 8, 2025, to win the fourth stage of the over 107-mile Tour de France cycling race with start in Amiens and finish in Rouen. The 26-year-old Pogacar, who is competing for the United Arab Emirates team, is currently ranked second and is the winner of three Tour de France competitions. The win became his 100th career victory.
Stage 5, on July 9, takes the cyclists in and around Caen, known as “The City of a Hundred Bells.”
GERMANY — Summer in the cornfield: A deer and its baby stand in a cornfield in Neu-Anspach near Frankfurt, July 8, 2025. These deer may be safer in the field, as they are considered culturally significant to life and culture in Germany.
It is permitted to hunt deer in order to prevent overpopulation; however, the sport is highly regulated.
SPAIN — Stampede of bulls: Revelers run with bulls from Cebada Gago ranch during the second day of the running of the bulls at the San Fermín fiestas in Pamplona, July 8, 2025. The running of the bulls is a daily event during the annual San Fermín Festival, which runs from July 6-14.
The public is invited to take part, and there is a special uniform to wear for those who don’t want to be doused with sangria, according to a travel website for the festivities.
PARIS — Different kind of rearview mirror: A model wears a creation as part of the Stephane Rolland Fall-Winter 2025/26 Haute Couture collection presented on July 8, 2025. The show is held as part of the world fashion capital’s Haute Couture Week.
Designer Rolland incorporated his collection and his show into the sensuality of composer Maurice Ravel’s famous work, “Boléro.”
GENEVA — She had her eye on the goal: Italy’s Cristiana Girelli celebrates after scoring the opening goal during the Euro 2025, group B, soccer match between Portugal and Italy at Stade de Geneve, in Switzerland, July 7, 2025.
The match resulted in a 1-1 draw. Italy’s Cristiana Girelli was named Player of the Match.
LOS ANGELES — It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s another Superman movie: Nicholas Hoult, from left, Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet arrive at the premiere of “Superman,” July 7, 2025, at TCL Chinese Theatre.
The movie is based on the Marvel Comics character who was sent to Earth as a small child with otherworldly powers. The brainchild of two Jewish cartoonists, Superman also fought fascism and any kind of world domination. A TV series starring George Reeves ran from 1952-58, and Christopher Reeve (no relation) played the title role in a series of five films.
The latest Superman film premieres July 11, with David Packard Corenswet in the title role. Co-star Rachel Brosnahan celebrates her 35th birthday the next day.
MARYLAND — Consequences of another “administration error”: Supporters of Kilmar Abrego Garcia rally outside of the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, where a hearing was scheduled on returning him to Maryland, July 7, 2025.
The question of Garcia’s fate remains as a federal judge expressed consternation with a Department of Justice attorney over his inability to answer her questions, particularly on where to send him if they decide to again deport him.
