GERMANY — Peaceful co-existence in the animal kingdom: A starling sits on an Icelandic horse at a stud farm in Wehrheim near Frankfurt, July 29, 2025. Stud farms are part of animal husbandry, the selective breeding of horses and other large livestock to be used for milk, meat, fibers and textiles, or other products.
Stud farms date at least as far back as the Middle Ages and were often at monasteries. Because monks were among the few literate people, they were responsible for recording pedigrees. The oldest monastic stud farm still operating today, Einsiedeln Abbey near Zurich, Switzerland, dates from the early 10th century.
KANSAS CITY — Fielding error on hot ball yields double: Atlanta Braves center fielder Michael Harris II misses the catch on a double hit by Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. during the ninth inning of a baseball game, July 28, 2025, in Missouri. The Braves won 10-7, with four runs in the top of the eighth inning, adding to their lead, but the Royals tried to catch up with three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
The Braves and the Royals both need to pick up wins to eliminate their respective deficits in their rankings. Currently, the Braves are 45 wins-60 losses, and the Royals are 52-55.
GAZA — Airdropped sacks do not always land in the most convenient spot: A Palestinian youth carries a sack of aid that landed in the Mediterranean Sea after being airdropped over central Gaza, at the shore of Zawaida, July 29, 2025. While the Israeli government has been announcing its air drops of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip,” Hamas and many relief organizations are condemning the manner in which it’s done, particularly since Israel is also being accused of blocking and turning back aid ships from international groups.
Several Palestinians were injured when the pallets fell onto the tents sheltering them. And in some cases, the packages arrived far from the refugee camps, involving a trek to retrieve them.

Kids from Tagle’s home country of the Philippines are also taking part in the Jubilee, which runs through Aug. 3.
Youth representing more than 145 nations are in Rome for the Jubilee, as are several from war-torn countries, including Iraq, South Sudan and Iraq.

Ledecky has now won her 22nd gold medal in a world championships event and her 28th overall. She’s also won nine Olympic gold medals and 14 overall.
SCOTLAND — How did Marine One get to Scotland? Probably a huge military cargo plane: President Donald Trump and Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer step off Marine One as they arrive at Trump International Golf Links, near Aberdeen. Most links courses can be found in Scotland, where golf was created, and in Ireland and England.
The links style of golf course is probably the most famous, and is named for “hlinc,” referring to its being on a sandy coast. The only genuine links courses are the coastal ones with sandy soil, as that kind of terrain was not suitable for much else.

The Player of the Game was Luis Rengifo, nicknamed Fifo, a 28-year-old right-handed thrower and switch-hitter from Venezuela. He has visited Children’s Hospitals and participates in the Angels’ Adopt-a-School program.
SCOTLAND — Now it’s more clear what Trump can do when his term is over — open new golf courses all over the world: President Donald Trump arrives, followed by a bagpiper band, at the opening ceremony for the Trump International Golf Links golf course, near Aberdeen, July 29, 2025.
The U.S. President, whose mother was born in Scotland, had pledged in 2023 to establish a golf course in Aberdeen. This was during the time of his civil fraud trial.
