July 15 was a rest day. The cyclists will resume on July 16, in Toulouse, France’s Occitanie region. They will race over flat land.

Given all the risks they must take to master the sport, bullfighters are not paid regular wages; rather, they must charge per fight during the season, which includes the Pamplona festival. Some matadors charge as much as $40,000 per fight.

The oldest and considered among the most prestigious golf tournaments worldwide, the event was established in 1860. The Irish prefer calling it the Open Championship.
PARIS — The commemoration of busting out of Bastille: Cadets from the elite engineering school Polytechnique march on the Champs-Élysées avenue during the Bastille Day parade, July 14, 2025. They are commemorating the event that sparked the French Revolution on this date in 1789, which overthrew the monarchy.
Six years later and 230 years ago, the battle song which would become known as La Marseillaise was composed and first sung on July 14, 1795.
LONDON — The swans that grunt, hiss and snort: Swan uppers hold mute swans during the ancient tradition of Swan Upping, the annual census of the mute swan population on the River Thames, July 14, 2025.
The ancient and annual ceremony’s mission is twofold: conservation and education.
They are trying to protect the swans from predators, such as minks, and prevent the erosion of the birds’ natural habitat. Leading the flotilla of swan uppers is the Maker of the Swans, who dons a white swan’s feather in his hat.

The championship, which runs through Aug. 3, includes swimming, diving, high diving, artistic swimming, open water and water polo. According to some sources, NBC is carrying the coverage in the U.S., but a Peacock subscription may be required to access it.
