KENSINGTON — NEWKIRK AVENUE WILL BE GETTING an eight-story, 75-foot-tall building featuring 28 residential units. Crain’s New York Business reports that developer Oleg Krasnitskiy has filed plans with the Department of Buildings for a building at 214 Newkirk Ave., which is on Tax Block 5424, Lot 16.
The 31,000-square-foot project would replace a 3-story, unoccupied mixed-use property. A Google Maps image from October 2024 shows the existing property to be a three-story house with white siding, situated between Ocean Parkway and East 8th Street. Although the photo shows names on the mailbox and a bicycle on the porch, Crain’s reports that it is now unoccupied.
The new building would include four parking spots. No demolition permits have yet been filed, according to the NYC Department of Buildings website. Krasnitskiy is listed on PropertyShark as the current owner of 27 properties around Brooklyn, including in Ditmas Park, Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay and Marine Park.
According to Crain’s, Kensington – which is bordered by Borough Park on the West, Prospect Park South and the landmark Green-Wood Cemetery to the north, Flatbush to the east and Midwood to the south — is the type of neighborhood that is deemed ideal for creating more housing as part of the City of Yes strategy.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — ‘A miracle that no one was killed …’ That’s what neighbors are saying about the collapse of the Hotel St. George marquee. Shown in this photograph are workmen beginning the removal and repair of the historic, old neon sign at the corner, referencing a relic of Brooklyn Heights’ past: the St. George Hotel.

ATLANTIC AVENUE — Exhausted shopper with cluster of bags and goods from mall at Boerum Place stops to look at huge construction site across the street. “Is that REALLY going to be a jail??” Her male companion is reassuring, “Nothing like Rikers … this is 21st Century.”
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Overheard in line at one of most popular pastry outlets on Montague Street: “Hope I can get them into a camp …” A mother with two pre-schoolers in tow was showing a friend the Dodge Y flyer for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18.
