
CONEY ISLAND — CONEY ISLAND CIVIC AND FAITH LEADER CONNIE JONES was publicly honored on Tuesday, May 13 as the 2025 Woman of Distinction for State Senate District 23. This prestigious recognition is part of the New York State Senate’s annual “Women of Distinction” program, now in its 27th year, which honors outstanding women whose contributions have significantly enriched the quality of life in their communities. Each New York State Senator has the opportunity to select one woman from their district for this recognition, highlighting their personal or professional contributions, achievements and impact.
State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton honored Connie Jones for over five decades of service to the Coney Island community. After graduating college, Jones worked at Amethyst Women’s Project in Coney Island, assisting survivors of domestic violence. Later, she worked at the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI) Urban Neighborhood Services team as a housing specialist and program coordinator.
Jones has been president of the Nurses Ministry at Coney Island Cathedral for over 30 years. She was the valedictorian for the NYPD Citizens Police Academy in 2014 and valedictorian for the DYCD Family Development Program.
