BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Earlier this month, the YMCA of Greater New York hosted a free career forum at its Bedford-Stuyvesant branch, bringing together 150 New York City teens aged 13 to 18 for a day of learning, inspiration and networking with leaders from some of the world’s most recognized companies.
The forum introduced young people to a wide range of career paths, including artificial intelligence, education, entrepreneurship, health care, media and business. Teens participated in panel discussions and interactive conversations with executives and professionals from organizations such as Google, the NFL, NBCUniversal Media, Con Edison, Christian Dior, Moody’s, Louis Vuitton Americas, Mount Sinai and more.
Global Business Columnist and Associate Editor at the Financial Times Rana Foroohar gave keynote remarks. Following the keynote, teens attended smaller panel sessions and networking opportunities where they were able to ask questions, hear firsthand career stories and connect directly with industry experts.
By convening youth and professionals from diverse industries under one roof, the YMCA of Greater New York reinforced its commitment to empowering young New Yorkers and preparing them to start building their future — connecting them to possibilities and giving them exposure to careers they may not otherwise encounter.
For more than 170 years, the YMCA of Greater New York has been where New Yorkers find their purpose, their people and their place.

SUNSET PARK — “As a resident of Marine Park, one of the great surprises I found biking around Industry City and visiting Japan Village was to discover Bush Terminal Park. I continue to be amazed at the serene hideaways that the city offers in some of the busiest places — and, still, with an iconic view.”

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — ‘A miracle that no one was killed …’ That’s what neighbors are saying about the collapse of the Hotel St. George marquee. Shown in this photograph are workmen beginning the removal and repair of the historic, old neon sign at the corner, referencing a relic of Brooklyn Heights’ past: the St. George Hotel.

ATLANTIC AVENUE — Exhausted shopper with cluster of bags and goods from mall at Boerum Place stops to look at huge construction site across the street. “Is that REALLY going to be a jail??” Her male companion is reassuring, “Nothing like Rikers … this is 21st Century.”
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Overheard in line at one of most popular pastry outlets on Montague Street: “Hope I can get them into a camp …” A mother with two pre-schoolers in tow was showing a friend the Dodge Y flyer for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18.
