CROWN HEIGHTS – BROOKLYN NATIVE AMANDA TORRES has been named as Director of Building Operations at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, according to a press release on Monday.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Torres brings to BCM more than a decade of experience in facilities and construction project management, having worked extensively with key city agencies, including the New York City Fire Department, the Housing and Preservation Department, the Department of City Planning, and borough presidents’ offices across all five boroughs. Torres’ most recent role was a Department of Buildings project manager at Schimenti Construction Company, where she oversaw city-filed projects and ensured full regulatory compliance and timely delivery.
For the past six months, Torres has collaborated closely with BCM as a consultant providing assistance to the facilities team and developing a comprehensive understanding of their building, systems, and operational requirements. As Director of Building Operations, she now oversees the maintenance, operations, and safety of BCM’s 100,000 square foot LEED-certified building, as well as 30,000 square feet of outdoor space, including a rooftop terrace and garden. She will focus on strengthening operational systems, improving day-to-day building functionality at the city’s largest cultural institution designed especially for families.
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum was founded in 1899.
