Colorful costumes, whimsical characters and creative tributes filled Coney Island as thousands celebrated the 44th annual Mermaid Parade.

The parade starts at 1 p.m., rain or shine, on West 21st Street and Surf Avenue. It rolls east to West 10th Street.

“The Mermaid Parade is Brooklyn. I’ll be damned if the Mermaid Parade won’t run any year that I am the Borough President.”

Musicians Jesse Malin and Rickie Lee Jones were named king and queen of Brooklyn’s iconic Mermaid Parade, returning after financial concerns.

Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade will take place this summer after fundraising and city funding eased financial concerns.

Antonio Reynoso announced new initiatives for students, immigrants and the arts in his 2026 State of the Borough address.

As of Thursday, $39,023 had been raised of its $40,000 goal on a GoFundMe page set up last month for the event.

Fans of the parade, however, seem determined to keep the tradition alive. As of Wednesday, $9,567 had been raised.
