
Mayor and Department of Correction condemned by community groups for avoiding solitary confinement ban
Community leaders and activists criticized Mayor Eric Adams and the Department of Correction (DOC) for attempting to delay the implementation of Local Law 42, which bans solitary confinement in New York City jails beyond four hours. The law, passed by an overwhelming majority in the City Council and overriding Mayor Adams’ veto, is set to take effect on July 28.
