BED-STUY/SOUTH WILLIAMSBURG — A MAN WHO STOLE A RELIGIOUS ARTIFACT FROM A BUILDING ON BEDFORD AVENUE is the focus of an NYPD manhunt. NYPD is asking for the public’s help in tracking down the thief. Because of the nature of the theft, the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident, which happened on Sunday, July 20, around 3:30 a.m. The thief removed the religious symbol from the front of 801 Bedford Ave., a multi-use building housing a cancer center and a retail store within the 79th Precinct. The icon is valued at about $2,000. The unidentified individual fled the location on foot, heading southbound on Bedford Avenue.
