Dancing in spring the olde way, on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade
Ritual “Morris” dancers descended on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade Thursday evening to celebrate the coming of the spring equinox.
Accompanied by musicians playing fiddle, guitar, accordion and other traditional instruments, the Bouwerie Boys Morris Dancers, Ring O’Bells Morris, and Half Moon Sword teams celebrated the season with jingling bells and swirling scarves.
Morris dancing is so old “that we don’t know why it’s called Morris dancing,” one of the dancers said. “Shakespeare thought it was old.”
