BROOKLYN TODAY 12/14

THE LEDE: Good morning. Indoor dining restrictions will be reinstated indefinitely in New York City, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations continue climbing in the city and throughout the state. As of today, only takeout orders and outdoor dining will be allowed in the city, the governor said.

THE RUNDOWN

~ LAWYER: TRUMP USING ‘DESPERATE’ TACTICS IN DEFAMATION SUIT: The latest legal maneuvers by President Donald Trump are further proof he’s “desperate to avoid justice” in a defamation lawsuit brought by a woman who says he raped her in the 1990s, one of her lawyers told a federal judge Friday. (AP)

~ CUOMO REINSTATES INDOOR DINING BAN AS COVID CASES CONTINUE TO RISE: The Democrat had been hinting at a clampdown on indoor dining for a week, saying he was waiting to see if hospitalization rates stabilized. They have not, and Cuomo said that despite the economic pain to one of the city’s biggest and most vital industries, he needed to act. (AP)

~ REMEMBERING THE CARS — AND HUBCAP COLLECTIONS — OF 1950S BROOKLYN: “Car enthusiasts have had a running love affair with hubcaps for decades. Some say that the art deco styling of the famous Chrysler Building in New York is a tribute to the hubcap.”

~ SAVING MONTAGUE STREET: BHA SURVEY SEEKS PLAN FOR REVITALIZATION OF BROOKLYN HEIGHTS’ ‘MAIN STREET’: The unofficial “Main Street” of New York’s first historic district should be a dream location for popular retail stores and restaurants, but the street has been plagued by vacancies for decades. Now, amid COVID-19, the bottom is falling out.
