Brooklyn Today March 18: Brooklyn Today: Lead testing school bill passes council

The Lede

The City Council unanimously passed an important bill last week — one that some might be surprised wasn’t already in place. The legislation requires lead testing in all school buildings built before 1978 where classes are held for children as young as six years of age. Testing would include elementary schools, pre-schools and nursery schools. “No parent should ever send their child to school worried about the possibility of exposure to lead poisoning,” said Brooklyn Councilmember Mark Treyger, who sponsored the bill, which is now awaiting the signature of Mayor Bill de Blasio
