    Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of T Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez on Friday announced that the city will finally shut down operations at a controversial concrete recycling facility on the western Brooklyn waterfront by this August.

Local residents had been flooding their elected officials with complaints about the dust, vibrations and noise from the SIMS Concrete Recycling Facility, operated by NYC DOT, ever since it was temporarily relocated to the north end of Brooklyn Marine Terminal site in the Columbia Street Waterfront District in February 2024.

    Many of the 100,000 people who held city-issued Br Many of the 100,000 people who held city-issued Brooklyn Bridge Park viewing tickets for the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks called the event a “total fiasco,” with a large number not making it onto the piers.

Numerous people told the Brooklyn Eagle they found themselves in panic-inducing logjams while trying to get into the park.

Many commenters said there appeared to be no central coordination for handling the huge crowds, and photos show unsafe, crammed streets.
