The vote on a contentious plan to redevelop the 12 The vote on a contentious plan to redevelop the 122-acre Brooklyn Marine Terminal, which had been scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed — for a fourth time — to July 24.

The city is proposing a modernized port and a mixed-used development with thousands of new homes.

Critics say the planning process is designed to favor real estate development over the site’s maritime uses, and is being rushed through before comprehensive traffic and infrastructure studies have been carried out.

Backers say abandoning the process now would delay port modernization and the construction of much-needed affordable housing.

Local residents had been flooding their elected officials with complaints about the dust, vibrations and noise from the SIMS Concrete Recycling Facility, operated by NYC DOT, ever since it was temporarily relocated to the north end of Brooklyn Marine Terminal site in the Columbia Street Waterfront District in February 2024.

Numerous people told the Brooklyn Eagle they found themselves in panic-inducing logjams while trying to get into the park.

Many commenters said there appeared to be no central coordination for handling the huge crowds, and photos show unsafe, crammed streets.
