WASHINGTON, D.C. — REP. DAN GOLDMAN (D-10-Western Brooklyn, lower Manhattan) joined other House Homeland Security Dems in sending a letter to the acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, Charles Ezell, demanding information on the impact of President Trump’s hiring freeze on the federal government’s cybersecurity workforce.

“Reckless attacks on federal workers risk reversing recent progress in addressing the government’s cyber workforce shortage,” the members wrote.

Federal agencies are top targets for foreign adversaries. In December 2024, hackers linked to the Chinese government gained access to the Treasury Department, according to a federal report; while in June 2023, another hacking group associated with China again gained access to the State Department’s Microsoft’s cloud networks, impacting 22 organizations and more than 500 individuals.

House Homeland Security members called the hiring freeze “poorly drafted, vague, and irresponsible.”
