FLATBUSH — A “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS” webinar hosted by Congressmember Yvette Clarke Thursday evening, Feb. 6, aims to make sure that constituents know how the U.S. Constitution protects them. The immigrant-led grassroots organization Make the Road will be Clarke’s special guest at the forum that has already seen 500 persons and community groups register.

Clarke points out in the announcement that “All individuals in the U.S. are entitled to rights under the Constitution, regardless of immigration status. While you may not always be able to control interactions with law enforcement or immigration authorities, it is crucial that you know how to navigate these situations and the rights afforded to you.”

Clarke will lead a discussion of President Donald Trump’s executive orders and potential community impacts, a review of important and unchanged information about the immigration system and training on everyone’s civil and constitutional rights. Among the expected presenters: Ronald Claude, Director of Policy & Advocacy, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI); Haddy Gassama, Policy and Advocacy Director at UndocuBlack; Diego Fernandez-Pages, Workplace Justice Law Graduate Skadden Fellow, Make the Road NY; and Janeth Cambizaca, ActionNYC Immigration Navigator, Make the Road NY. Register for the 6 p.m. webinar here.

Clarke’s Ninth District, covering much of Flatbush and East Flatbush, has a major Caribbean population. Interpretation will be offered in Creole.
