FDA escalates recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips single-serve bags due to undeclared milk presence

NATIONWIDE — LAY’S CLASSIC POTATO CHIPS are now under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s most-severe recall level, according to the agency and several news sources.
A Class I recall of 6,344 of the 13-oz size bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips was initiated last month but escalated last week due to “undeclared milk,” which means that milk wasn’t listed on the product ingredients but was reported from a consumer. The oversight could result in “death,” at least for those with a milk allergy or sensitivity, says the FDA. The recall is limited in scope, meaning that the affected bags would have both a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Feb. 11 (next Wednesday) and one of the following Manufacturing Codes: 6462307xx or 6463307xx.
The product was originally distributed in Oregon and Washington in November but might have been purchased by New York travelers to those western state destinations.
