KCCBA welcomes new president, directors and officers at well-attended Brooklyn ceremony

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The Kings County Criminal Bar Association (KCCBA) — a community legal organization dedicated to the betterment of the criminal justice system in Brooklyn — held its annual meeting and CLE on Jan. 16, whereby more than 50 new directors and officers, including a new president, were sworn in.

The event took place at 123 Remsen Street, the headquarters of the historic Brooklyn Bar Association. The KCCBA meeting was a huge success, according to Darran Winslow, who served as president for the past three years, relinquishing his title to current President Michael Sheinberg.

“The room was packed,” Winslow told the Brooklyn Eagle. “It was a huge draw.

At the meeting, 49 directors and 10 officers, including Sheinberg, were sworn in by Hon. Matthew D’Emic, Administrative Judge of the criminal part of the State Supreme Court of Kings County.

Hon. D’Emic also highlighted a number of positive happenings in his CLE speech, most notably the addition of two new Supreme Court judges, Hon. Archana Rao and Hon. Carolina Holderness.

Hon. Keshia Espinal and Hon. Craig Walker provided CLE commentary as well.

Upon being sworn in, Sheinberg discussed growing the KCCBA and targeting younger members. He also pointed out a number of upcoming CLE events, which will include “Cybersecurity in the Age of AI,” “Ethics 101,” and “The Constitutionality of Recidivist Sentencing in New York State.”

Past President Winslow said that serving as KCCBA president “has been my honor and privilege.”
