BROOKLYN AND QUEENS — A nuclear scientist and a former basketball player are among the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn’s eight new elementary school principals. They will be featured in a special program this Sunday, Jan. 26, airing at 7 p.m. on New York’s Catholic TV station, NET-TV, to herald the start of Catholic Schools Week.

This special ‘Open House’ edition of NET-TV’s Currents News will give viewers an inside look at how these leaders are providing a comprehensive academic education to help students reach their full potential. The show will feature new school administrators from Brooklyn and Queens, also including the stories of a nuclear scientist-turned-educator who’s become an expert in turning potential into energy; a principal who is shooting for the stars alongside a coach from her days as a college basketball player; a principal who has danced, played and learned with her students;  and a graduate returning to her alma mater as principal, to fulfill a promise to her younger self.

“The principals of our Catholic academies are women and men of vision, hope, and practicality on the cutting edge of a faith based education. Our principals, with our teachers, are giving today’s students the necessary skills to challenge the status quo and ultimately change the world,” said Deacon Kevin McCormack, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Brooklyn.

The half-hour “Meet the Principals” special will air on Currents News, NET TV’s daily newscast. The network is available via Spectrum (channel 97), Verizon FiOs (channel 548), Cablevision (channel 30) and via YouTube.
