WASHINGTON, DC — BROOKLYN-BORN DR. ANTHONY FAUCI, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who received death threats during the coronavirus pandemic for his warnings, no longer has government-financed security protection, after President Trump canceled that detail Thursday night, according to the New York Times and other news sources.

Dr. Fauci’s protection came from federal marshals rather than the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting presidents, vice presidents and others in the line of succession, their families, former presidents, certain members of Congress and visiting dignitaries and heads of state.

Dr. Fauci later received security services from a private contractor whose fees were paid by the government, according to one source who spoke with the NY Times anonymously. The doctor, who retired from government service during the second year of the Biden administration, has now reportedly hired his own security company.

Dr. Fauci grew up in Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights. He and his parents, who had emigrated from Italy, lived above the pharmacy they owned. Dr. Fauci later was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
