BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — INTERIOR DESIGNER KATE MCELHINEY showed off to Architectural Digest a 750-square-foot duplex transformed into a haven on one of Brooklyn Heights’ historic “fruit streets.”

The rental, featuring exposed beams and a lofted layout, was brought to life with vintage Swedish furniture, vibrant textiles, and original art from McElhiney and her family. Notable touches include a banquette dining nook, a bed nook, twin sisal rugs as a budget-friendly hack, and a skylit bedroom offering views of the moon.

“We love lying in bed at night and being able to see the moon and a couple of stars from the skylight in our room. I think we will live here as long as we can,” said McElhiney, 31, who created and shares the home with her husband.
