CROWN HEIGHTS — City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D-43) partnered with the Brooklyn Children’s Museum to host a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, Feb. 1. The celebration will include live music, dance, kung fu and calligraphy workshops, as well as lion dance parades. Zhuang has a limited amount of free family passes for families in need. According to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum website, participants will also learn about Lunar New Year traditions through storytelling with authors Yobe Qiu and Ran Wei; calligraphy workshops with artist Nelson Leung; snake themed programs in Nature’s Engineers (BCM’s STEM MakerSpace); and lion dance parades that the Chinatown Community Young Lions are leading.

Tickets start at $15 for nonmembers and are available to purchase online.

“We are happy that we get to share the traditions of this holiday with families throughout Brooklyn and New York City. Sharing is a significant part of Lunar New Year because in Asian culture it is a sign of love, respect, and community. As a mother, I am happy that my kids will be able to learn all about these Lunar New Year traditions,” said Zhuang.
