WASHINGTON, DC — CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS only “back the blue” when it’s convenient, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY10) said Thursday at a Washington, D.C. event he hosted with Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges. Dunn and Hodges were among the 170 law enforcement officers attacked by the mob incited by Donald Trump to break into the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. Goldman, who represents western Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, joined Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) in condemning Trump’s blanket pardon for the roughly 1,500 jailed insurrectionists. Trump’s “disgusting” pardons freed individuals convicted of assaulting police officers, seditious conspiracy and other violent crimes, Goldman said in a release. “Trump can try to whitewash what happened that day, but these brave officers are constant reminders of his betrayal of law enforcement and America.”

“Donald Trump … was proud of the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th,” Dunn said. “He made this clear on January 7th, 2021. Anyone pretending to be outraged and shocked that he would do this either hasn’t been paying attention or is full of shit.”
