BEDFORD-STUYVESANT— Brooklyn native Hon. Turquoise Haskin, whose name recalls the ancient gem stone that was worn by pharaohs and Aztec kings, was formally inducted as a judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 12 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, located at 574 Madison Street, before a crowd of approximately 200 spectators.

Haskin has been a court attorney for more than 17 years and worked on the resolution and disposition of thousands of cases affecting every day New Yorkers. Notably, she has worked directly with her judge in dispensing justice on nearly 400 jury and bench trials in Kings County Civil and Supreme Courts.

Guest speakers included Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who called Haskin, “a proud child of Brooklyn, who has spent her professional life protecting the people of the community she loves so much.”
