Mayor Adams heads to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump

NEW YORK & FLORIDA — MAYOR ERIC ADAMS is traveling to Florida to meet with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday. According to the New York Times, other prominent political leaders who have recently traveled to Mar-a-Lago to consult with Trump include Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania.
“Mayor Adams has made quite clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers – and that partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City’s success,” said Fabien Levy, spokesperson for Mayor Adams, in a press statement.
Adams’ openness to collaboration with the incoming president has drawn criticism from other Democrats, including mayoral candidate Comptroller Brad Lander. When asked if he would return to the GOP – Adams was briefly a registered Republican between 1995 and 2002 – he deflected reporters in early December, saying he was part of the “American party.” Adams has previously touted himself as the “Biden of Brooklyn.” Since late 2024, he has reassured voters he will run on the Democratic ticket.
Trump has repeatedly expressed empathy with Adams over his legal troubles, saying that the two were uniquely “persecuted,” and has considered a pardon for Adams.
