Frigid weather forecast moves Trump inauguration indoors

WASHINGTON, DC — The inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump will be held indoors, due to dangerously-low forecast temperatures on Monday, Jan. 20, the Associated Press announced on Friday, Jan. 17. This will mark the first time since 1985 — when President Ronald Reagan took the oath of office for his second term — that an inauguration was moved indoors. The rotunda is prepared as the inclement weather alternative for each inauguration in the event of inclement weather. Monday’s forecast of 22 degrees is the second-lowest since Washington was hit with a seven degree Arctic blast in 1985. However, alternate plans must now be made for the 250,000 ticketed guests, plus thousands more who will be viewing the event in general-admission areas and the parade route, as the parade is also expected to be moved inside the Capitol Building.
A Catholic priest from Brooklyn, Fr. Frank Mann, is expected to give the closing benediction at the inauguration.
