Brooklyn’s Rep. Dan Goldman praises Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal

BOROUGHWIDE — REP. DAN GOLDMAN (D-10) RESPONDED TO THE NEWLY-MINTED CEASEFIRE DEAL between Israel and Hamas. Israel and Hamas agreed on Wednesday, Jan. 15 to a ceasefire deal to pause the devastating war in the Gaza Strip, the U.S. and Qatar told the Associated Press. The cease-fire increases the likelihood that the extremely destructive war — which began after an attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, and caused a massive humanitarian crisis — could finally end. Details are being negotiated and the deal is slated to take effect on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Goldman, who was in Israel for a family bar mitzvah when Hamas launched its attack, said in a statement, “After 466 days of brutal captivity under a barbaric terrorist organization, the innocent hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7th will finally start coming home, as will the remains of the hostages who perished in Gaza. This long overdue hostage and ceasefire agreement is the first step towards an end to this conflict, which can now lead to a future of peace, security and prosperity for both Israelis and Palestinians without the looming threat of Hamas, the terrorist group that executed the worst attack in Israel’s history on Oct. 7.”
Praising President Biden’s tenacity on brokering a peace deal, Goldman added, “With this agreement, the Palestinian people can receive an influx of humanitarian aid and the international community can join together to rebuild Gaza with self-determination for the Palestinian people who have been horribly treated by Hamas. I urge our government to join forces with allies around the world — and especially in the Middle East — to help restore peace and security in the region.”
