Semi-pro soccer team gears up for spring season in Red Hook

RED HOOK – BROOKLYN’S SEMI-PRO RED Hook FC soccer team, formerly Albion FC, is preparing for its second year this spring at the freshly remediated Red Hook Ballfields, reports the Red Hook Star-Revue. The club was promoted two levels after successful spring and fall seasons last year, and is currently in the fourth tier of organized U.S. soccer. Club founder Sacha Weiss told the Star-Revue that the club was founded on principles of social and environmental justice, and strives both to embrace and give back to the local community – the team is set to partner with local nonprofits during match days – and to pursue diversity, with its roster boasting players from ages 16 to 37 and of 21 different nationalities.
Red Hook FC’s season begins in April.
