Runners join ‘Quitter’s Day’ race in Greenpoint

GREENPOINT — ABOUT 100 RUNNERS gathered at McCarren Park Friday for Brooklyn’s first Quitter’s Day 5K through Greenpoint, coming out in the freezing cold to defy the odds of failed New Year’s resolutions. The event, organized by ultrarunner David Kilgore in partnership with Red Bull, aimed to inspire city residents to stick with their goals: data shows 58% of New York state residents gave up on resolutions early last year, with the average person only making it as far as March.
“A lot of people make really big goals at the beginning of the year and Quitter’s Day kind of acts as a great accountability check marker to kick off the year and make sure these people continue with that same stoke, that same energy throughout the year,” Kilgore told the New York Post.
Participants noted the event’s role in fostering accountability and perseverance. Many runners expressed hopes for better fitness habits in 2025.
