CITYWIDE — NEW YORK CITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS are being invited to participate in a 2025 Youth Leadership Council to learn about careers in law and the courts. The NYC Law Dept. Family Court Division is accepting applications on a rolling basis for its 2025 Youth Leadership Council, whose participants will have the opportunity to learn about the work of the Family Court Division.

According to their web page, each Youth Leadership Council is part of a network of youth groups focused on policy, practice and advocacy to make local change happen, embedded with agencies across city government. Youth Leadership Councils also become “a space to team up with others, share ideas, create solutions, and put those solutions into action with the support from City agencies, schools, and community organizations.” Eligible applicants will be between ages 14-21 and in either a city high school or equivalency program. Application information is accessible via: www.nycservice.org/youth_opportunities; the deadline is this Thursday, Jan. 16.

Some of the endeavors on which Youth Leadership Council participants have worked include: Preventing gun violence in communities, influencing citywide environmental sustainability awareness initiatives, encouraging nutritious diets and healthy lifestyles, connecting youths to digital resources for research and advocacy and using art as a tool for social action.
