Mayoral candidate Jim Walden raises $630K in initial campaign fund reporting period

CITYWIDE — NEW YORK MAYORAL CANDIDATE JIM WALDEN has raised almost $630,000 for his campaign as of the close of the most recent reporting that concluded on Saturday, according to his campaign office. This funding gives Walden, a first-time candidate for office, more than $900,000. Having received nearly 500 donations from NYC residents, the campaign is on track to qualify for matching funds in the spring if needed. He reportedly raised the majority of the funds in a 30 day period. An Independence Party candidate, Walden officially launched his campaign last fall and, on Nov. 25, 2024, held a launch ceremony at Cadman Plaza Park, a short walk from the federal court in Brooklyn, where earlier in his career he prosecuted mafia figures and international drug traffickers.
As of early January, Walden has already received endorsements of 58 former top federal and local prosecutors, with his supporters emphasizing his tenure as federal prosecutor in Brooklyn and his integrity, the Brooklyn Eagle’s Mary Frost reported. A Brooklyn resident who describes himself as being fiscally conservative but socially progressive, Walden, has received support from the NYC Fire Department and the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees, which represents roughly a quarter of a million retired municipal employees, and for which he fought to protect their traditional public Medicare benefits.
Walden’s platform centers on anti-corruption, antisemitism, voter protection, housing, education, congestion pricing, COVID injustices and uplifting public servants.
