FLATBUSH — KWENDA COLLEGIATE GIRLS CHARTER SCHOOL is coming to 2520 Church Avenue in Flatbush, according to BKReader. The school signed a 10-year lease for the 44,114-square-foot facility – the former Holy Cross School site – in September 2024. Renovations are slated to be complete in June 2025, and the school will open in August. Kwenda Collegiate’s curriculum will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) for grades K-5. The school will provide daily literacy instruction as well, with two teachers in each classroom. Construction was initially delayed because of the cap on the number of charter schools in the five boroughs.

“Our new state-of-the-art school facility will provide Brooklyn families with immersive learning experiences aligned with our mission to provide girls, regardless of income, within a school designed with girls and gender-expansive youth at the center,” Christina Yi-Perry, founder and executive director of Kwenda Collegiate Girls Charter School, told BKReader.
