HOMECREST — A FIRE BROKE OUT ON OCEAN AVENUE between avenues R and S early on Thursday at around 4 a.m. in the basement of a six-story apartment building, according to FDNY. The blaze left one person injured, and has displaced several families, who are being assisted by the Red Cross, reports News 12. Altogether, 25 units and more than 100 EMS personnel worked for about an hour and a half to put out the fire. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

“At 3:45 in the morning, my dog woke me up, and then all my living room was filled with smoke,” a resident, Alina Palacios, said to News 12 Brooklyn. “The apartment is not good because they moved everything. They broke all the windows.”
