WASHINGTON, DC — A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT ON THURSDAY DENIED A REQUEST to block the public release of special counsel Jack Smith’s report on President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, according to the Associated Press and other sources.  The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused an emergency challenge from Trump and his co-defendants in his classified documents case. Trump’s team has sought to keep the report secret, claiming that it is biased.

However, the election interference report will not immediately be available, as a lower court ruling from Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon temporarily blocking the Justice Department from releasing the report is still in effect for three days. No guarantee exists that the report will be released publicly, as legal fighting is expected to continue. Moreover, a separate volume of the same special counsel report — related to Trump’s alleged storage of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate — will not become public while the case against two co-defendants of the president-elect remains pending, the Justice Department indicated.

It’s possible that the President-elect’s legal team might also ask the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene, although the same judicial body, also on Thursday, denied another request from Trump regarding the sentencing scheduled for tomorrow in a NY hush-money case.
