State Senator and mayoral candidate Myrie criticizes Adams’ State of City address
FLATBUSH — QUOTING MAYOR ERIC ADAMS’ State of the City address while it was still in progress, State Senator and mayoral candidate Zellnor Myrie (D-20) released a statement outlining his own campaign goals. “Eric Adams must be living in a different New York,” wrote Myrie, who represents a section of Brooklyn stretching from Prospect Heights to East Flatbush. “Stop telling us the city is safer than ever when New Yorkers are nervous to get on the subway. Stop claiming our city is more livable when no one can find an apartment. Eric Adams can keep calling mediocrity success — but no one is buying it. We need honest leadership and tangible results — not rhetoric and empty promises … We need to tackle the housing crisis Day One — not year four. I’m running for Mayor with a plan for one million homes to bring down the cost of living, universal afterschool to help working parents, and an end to gun violence so our streets and subways feel safe again.”
Amid much kibbitzing with his staff and special guests, Mayor Adams, in his State of the City address on Thursday afternoon, articulated his own plans to create a million homes in the next decade, as part of a slate of ambitious initiatives to rectify street homelessness and housing. He also underscored his record on jobs, public safety and the “City of Yes” zoning plan, burdensome health care coverage issues, and on providing for the influx of asylum seekers.
