Polka Dot Polish deli in Greenpoint at risk after 30 years
GREENPOINT — AFTER NEARLY 30 YEARS of business in Greenpoint, the Polka Dot deli at 726 Manhattan Avenue may have to close, reports Greenpointers. The rising costs of food and bills have put pressure on owner Marzena Parys, who has worked to raise her family and run the deli since her husband passed in 2005. The store originally opened as Polski Deli Market in 1996. A GoFundMe fundraiser for Parys has raised over $9,000 of its $250,000 goal as of Thursday, Jan. 9, from community members.
“Closing Polka Dot would mean losing the dream that Mariusz started with his own hands and Marzena has fought to protect for nearly three decades. It would be saying goodbye to a lifetime of sacrifice, love, and memories,” the GoFundMe page states. Eagle reporter Lore Croghan gave Polka Dot a rave review in 2019.
