LOWER MANHATTAN — AN INFLUENTIAL GROUP OF THE CITY’S MUNICIPAL RETIREES are holding a rally on Friday, Jan. 10 to fight against Mayor Eric Adams’ latest attempt to shift them from traditional Medicare into a private Medicare Advantage Plan. NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees — joined by several other groups including Midtown South Community Council, Physicians For A National Health Plan, Penn South Social Services, 29th Street Neighborhood Association, Chelsea Reform Democratic Club and Hell’s Kitchen Democrats — will assemble outside 250 Broadway in Manhattan at 11:15 a.m.

This coalition will speak about the healthcare issues they attribute to Adams, focusing on what they call the “Dis-Advantage Plan Nightmare,” the mayor’s legal attacks and the toll on retirees. The NYC Retirees, in their fight to keep the traditional federal Medicare, have won 11 court decisions, including three unanimous appellate court rulings.

The NYC Retirees said, “Traditional Medicare was one of the greatest civil rights achievements in labor history. Unions and elected alike need to protect it and us. Intro 1096 needs to be passed even more so now to protect the healthcare of NYers since life expectancy is allegedly important to the Mayor.”
