BAY RIDGE and SUNSET PARK — SOME RESIDENTS OF BAY RIDGE said they were blindsided by this past weekend’s planned R train service cuts, the New York Post reported. Though the scheduled disruption had been widely publicized in advance by sites including the Brooklyn Eagle, Gothamist and the MTA itself, the Post says the MTA app failed to notify people throughout the weekend, and Chinese and Spanish signs that had been posted in Sunset Park briefly disappeared. The cause of the suspension was structural maintenance, according to the MTA. Free shuttle buses were provided.

Heads up: R train service will also be disrupted from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 to 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13. Late-night service on the Brooklyn segment of the R line will also be halted until Jan. 17, with the exception of the segment between 59 Street and 95 Street, where the R train will run on weeknights. Impacted riders can find a full list of service changes and alternatives online, on the MTA’s website.
