Vehicle collision on Gowanus Expressway halts traffic Monday

SUNSET PARK — TRAFFIC CAME TO A STANDSTILL on the Gowanus Expressway due to a vehicle collision near Exit 23 at roughly 8:15 a.m. Monday morning. Two injuries were reported, with NYPD Highway units and FDNY personnel working to clear the scene, according to the Citizen app. Citizen users posted videos showing police and firefighters at the scene.

Emergency services navigated heavy traffic to reach the crash, which blocked two of three lanes on I-278. Backups extended to Third Avenue below the highway, according to app users.
