Migrants shuffled out of Bushwick shelter
BUSHWICK — CONFUSION WAS RIFE in Bushwick on Saturday when migrants were shuffled out of a shelter at 455 Jefferson St. and told to relocate, PIX11 reports. Migrants and advocates said they were not notified in advance, but Mayor Eric Adams’ office pushed back on that claim. Local nonprofit Food Fight Brooklyn told PIX11 that around 80 men were being transported to a congregant shelter that they were not familiar with. A spokesperson for Adams’ office told the outlet, “As part of our efforts to consolidate migrant shelters, we will begin serving single adult women and adult families at the Jefferson, and single adult men who are currently guests there are being transferred to other sites.”
“As always, we properly notified guests in advance of this change and will continue to make efforts to mitigate impacts on all guests and staff,” the statement continued.
