MANHATTAN — PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP is scheduled to be sentenced in his Stormy Daniels hush-money conviction ten days before his inauguration, but it is doubtful he will serve any time in prison, according to the Associated Press and other sources. Judge Juan Merchan of State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Friday set the sentencing date for Friday, Jan. 10, which will make Trump the first felon to occupy the White House starting on Jan. 20. Earlier, Merchan denied Trump’s request to toss the conviction, which his defense team had made on the grounds that it would “pose constitutional disruptions” to his ability to lead the nation. Merchan, who presided over Trump’s trial, indicated in writing  that he’d sentence the former and now-incoming president to a conditional discharge, a situation in which a case gets dismissed if a defendant avoids rearrest.

The development marks yet another twist in this unprecedented case involving a U.S. President. A jury in May convicted Trump of 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide a hush money arrangement.
